Good Bye!

This is the last edition of the blog “The Orthodox Issue” – at least for a good while. Unless there are a number of feedback messages showing the interest for this blog, it will be stopped for an indefinite time. However, I’ll start another one but this time in my home country language – Romanian. I don’t have a given date for this one either.

Any comments or concerns can be directed to my personal e-mail address  e4herman@yahoo.com

“Behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:1)

To us that have been given the grace and privilege of living one more day, this is this great news. Yesterday we celebrated the birthday of the One who brought us salvation from eternal damnation. Did you accept it? You don’t know, I don’t know, no one knows how many other chances we might be given.

Why wouldn’t  you hurry and today accept Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross on our behalf, get baptized and be thus born of the above?

Have Came For Us

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11)

He is born to save everybody but not everybody will be saved against his/her will. Because we have free will He is expecting us to ask to be saved.

Have you been saved? We are all sinners because we are the offspring of a sinner couple (Adam and Eve). Only the God-Man Jesus can save us. This is why He was born as a human for us to be able to be born of the Holy Spirit from God.

Have you been saved?

He Wants, Do You Too?

“If a person wants to be a part of your life, they will make an obvious effort to do so.  Think twice before reserving a space in your heart for people who do not make an effort to stay”.

Awesome thought! Jesus wants to be a part of your life, in your heart. Did He make any obvious effort to prove you that? What other bigger effort could anyone in the world to do except to put down His own life for you? Yes, Jesus that is God of true God took, first, a human body like yours and suffered immensely much on Earth. Then He went to the Cross to die in your stead to pay the penalty of sin which is death.

Will make room in your heart and life for Him?

Are You “In”?

“Life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you react to it”.

The life is how you react to what happens to you. You and I would like to react the best to everything in order to get the best out of everything that comes up in our way.

However, in order to react the best we must be able to oppose the force of the evil one, Satan, who is the master of this world (John 14:30). Nevertheless, the Son of God, Jesus Christ, gave us this assurance: “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world, ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

The key word in Jesus’ above sayings is “in me”. It doesn’t matter that you are in this world full of turmoil as long as you are “in” Jesus, the One that overcame the world.

Are you “in” Jesus?

Saying Is Not Loving

(Love) Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things” (1 Corinthians 13:7).

“I say I love you at least 50 times a day” a good brother in Christ and friend of mine said to me.

Over half of marriages in the States end in divorce. These are husbands & wives which likely say “I love you” numerous times a day, perhaps like my friend, 50 times a day.

Love is not a something said. Love is an action. God loved the world by giving His only Son for us (action), not by informing us of his love through an “I love you”. Jesus “made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:7-8)

How will my and your marriage go, when loving by giving up our ambitions, egos and everything that stands in the place of loving, like Jesus?

Aglow in the Snow

“No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying”

Years ago while Romania was still communist, we, the Romanians in Diaspora used to ship boxes with clothes and supplies to our families and friends. A shipment took about 45 days to arrive at its destination. Thinking that a certain lady whom I knew wasn’t aware of this option, I shared this news with her. She told me that she knows of it but she is not using it. When I asked her why here is what she responded:

– I can’t.

– Why not?

– Because it takes too long for my package to reach its destination.

– Yeah, it takes about a month and a half. But here is my question: if you don’t ever ship it, is there any hope for your loved ones to ever get the goodies?

– Well, you know what? I never thought it this way. You are right.  Maybe I will have to give them a try.

Following God’s way to be saved according to His Book, the Bible, is viewed as kind of fruitless try, something that the Protestants do, but not we, the Orthodox. We, the Orthodox have our tradition.

Remember this: men’s way will take you in men’s heaven (if there is such a one). Only God’s way will take you to His heaven.

Which way are you traveling on towards eternity?
